This month in digital music libraries - October 2024

Newspaper This month: music download site Qobuz gets hit with possible future redactions, new music players for Linux and building an organ with GPU fans (not a typo).

Redactions affect download too

Even if you resolve to use a download store to purchase copies of albums, odd tracks and more, you can still get hit by redactions. Qobuz has been sending out emails warning this might happen in the future. Make sure you’re fully backed up, it’s a reminder this can affect non-streamers too!

… but even though streaming gets a pass on this one, let me just quickly put the boot in…

New music players

Some more niched music players this month. Here’s a quick potted list of Linux music players you might like to try…

… and even more niche, who remembers Microsoft Zune from the 00s? Surprisingly I do see a lot of nostalgia for this platform online, so this new music player might get a lot of love:

Something to do when you’ve finished your latest LLM project…

Use the GPU fans to build a pipe organ of course!
